Where the steel diamond Santos keeps its stones on a steel bezel, this medium model sets 206 brilliant-cut diamonds, 0.64 carats in all, into an 18K yellow gold bezel, and matches it with a golden sunray dial, so the face reads warm from edge to edge. The case beneath is steel, 35.1mm by 41.9mm, and yellow gold screws punctuate the steel bracelet links to tie the two metals together. Black Roman numerals and blued-steel sword hands stay crisp against the gold dial, and the seven-sided crown carries a faceted blue synthetic spinel. Inside is calibre 1847 MC, Cartier's own automatic movement, behind a square sapphire crystal, with water resistance to 100 metres. The bracelet resizes by hand through SmartLink, and QuickSwitch exchanges it for the alligator strap without tools. Next to the all-steel diamond version, it is the dressier choice: gold where the eye lands, steel where the wear happens.
