There is almost no dial on this watch. What would normally be a solid surface has been cut away to leave a silver chapter ring carrying black Roman numerals, and everything inside that ring is movement - bridges, wheels, ruby jewels and mainspring barrel, all visible from the front. The skeletonisation is not simply material removed: the remaining bridges have been hand-engraved with scrollwork, so the metal that survives is decorated rather than merely thinned, and the engraving catches light differently from the polished wheels behind it. Against a red gold case the effect is warm rather than clinical. Blued hands sweep over the open work and remain readable because they are the only strongly coloured element on the watch. This is a manual winding piece, so the movement is wound and watched rather than left to a rotor.
