The Milanese mesh bracelet is what separates this Portofino from the leather references, and it is not a small difference — woven from fine steel links rather than assembled from solid ones, it drapes over the wrist like fabric and catches light continuously along its length. Against the silver-plated dial with applied Roman numerals the effect is unusually soft for a steel watch. IWC has offered mesh on the Portofino since 2014 and it remains the version people notice across a table.
