36mm in 950 platinum: a silver dial with applied index markers, a fluted platinum bezel and the President bracelet. A silver dial is the most neutral thing Rolex puts on a Day-Date, and on a watch this loaded with precious metal that restraint is the whole idea. Thirty-six millimetres is the size the Day-Date has been built around since 1956, when it became the first wristwatch to spell the day of the week out in full. In platinum, the fluted bezel is machined into the solid case rather than applied to it. It is worn on the President bracelet, made only for this model and for the Day-Date’s closest relations, with a concealed Crownclasp. Calibre 3255 sits inside with about seventy hours in reserve.
