Reference 128238-0045. A fluted yellow gold bezel and the President bracelet around a champagne-colour dial with applied index markers. 36mm in 18 ct yellow gold. Champagne is the oldest Day-Date dial there is, close enough in tone to yellow gold that the watch reads as a single warm object. Thirty-six millimetres is the size the Day-Date has been built around since 1956, when it became the first wristwatch to spell the day of the week out in full. In yellow gold, the fluted bezel is machined into the solid case rather than applied to it. It is worn on the President bracelet, made only for this model and for the Day-Date’s closest relations, with a concealed Crownclasp. Calibre 3255 sits inside with about seventy hours in reserve. Rolex lists this alongside reference 128238-0008, which shares the same case, bezel, dial colour and bracelet; the two differ in a detail of finish that a photograph will not show, so it is worth seeing them together.
