36mm in 18 ct yellow gold: a dark grey dial with diamond hour markers, a diamond-set bezel and the President bracelet. The dark grey dial has a sunray finish, so it lightens and darkens as the watch turns, and against yellow gold it is the cooler choice. Thirty-six millimetres is the size the Day-Date has been built around since 1956, when it became the first wristwatch to spell the day of the week out in full. In yellow gold, the bezel is set with brilliant-cut diamonds in place of the fluting. It is worn on the President bracelet, made only for this model and for the Day-Date’s closest relations, with a concealed Crownclasp. Calibre 3255 sits inside with about seventy hours in reserve. Rolex lists this alongside reference 128348RBR-0007, which shares the same case, bezel, dial colour and bracelet; the two differ in a detail of finish that a photograph will not show, so it is worth seeing them together.
