Ten baguette-cut diamonds stand in for hour markers on the white mother-of-pearl dial of this Rolex Day-Date 36, its 18 ct white gold case finished with a diamond-set bezel. Nacre and diamonds suit each other: one gives a soft, moving glow, the other crisp flashes of light, and the white gold around them keeps the palette pale. Each baguette is a slender rectangle, so the hours read as neat strokes rather than dots. Two apertures handle the calendar, with the weekday spelled in full at 12 and the date jumping instantly at 3. Behind the dial, calibre 3255 pairs a Chronergy escapement with Paraflex shock absorbers and a paramagnetic hairspring of blue Parachrom, and it bears the Superlative Chronometer title. Gold continues onto the President bracelet, whose concealed Crownclasp leaves this Rolex Day-Date 36 smooth and seamless on the wrist.
