A fluted yellow gold bezel and the President bracelet around a bright black dial with diamond-set hour markers. 40mm in 18 ct yellow gold. Black gives the Day-Date its sharpest contrast, and on a watch that spells the weekday out in full at twelve, legibility is not a small consideration. At 40mm the Day-Date is the fuller of the two sizes, redrawn in 2015 with a wider dial opening and slimmer lugs rather than simply scaled up. In yellow gold, the fluted bezel is machined into the solid case rather than applied to it. It is worn on the President bracelet, made only for this model and for the Day-Date’s closest relations, with a concealed Crownclasp. Calibre 3255 sits inside with about seventy hours in reserve. Rolex lists this alongside reference 228238-0067, which shares the same case, bezel, dial colour and bracelet; the two differ in a detail of finish that a photograph will not show, so it is worth seeing them together.
