This Rolex Deepsea pairs a D-blue dial, which shades from blue into black, with a 44mm Oystersteel case, a unidirectional black Cerachrom bezel with platinum-coated graduation and an Oyster bracelet in Oystersteel. Collectors call this version the James Cameron, because Rolex introduced the D-blue dial in 2014 to mark Cameron's 2012 solo dive to the deepest point of the Mariana Trench. The gradient suits that story, from sunlit blue down to the black of the deep. The case follows the Ringlock system, with a nitrogen-alloyed steel compression ring, a domed sapphire crystal 5.5mm thick, a helium escape valve and a screw-down Triplock crown, and it is waterproof to 3,900 meters, or 12,800 feet. Calibre 3235 beats inside, a Superlative Chronometer with some 70 hours on a full wind. The Oysterlock safety clasp carries the Glidelock extension system, so this Rolex Deepsea can be sized in small steps.
